GENERAL

LOCATION

The main gathering point with start and finish line is at the future Wilden Market Square Site on Union Road across from the Hidden Lake Lookout Townhomes.

If you’re coming from Glenmore Road turn onto Union Road and follow it all the way up until you see the event flags.

If you’re coming up to Wilden from Clement Avenue just turn onto Clifton Road, then right onto Rio Drive. Follow Rio Drive, turn left onto Upper Canyon Drive and keep following the road all the way to the roundabout. Here take the 2nd exit to Union Road. Here you will see flags marking the event and parking site.

WASHROOMS

Portable toilets will be available at the start/finish area for your convenience.

PARKING

Plenty of parking will be available on site visible with flags and is only a short walk from the start line (left) off Union Road. If the parking lot fills up street parking in the surrounding neighbourhoods will be available. We encourage all participants to car pool to reduce the hassle of finding parking and to keep the environment in mind.

CUP FREE

Wild One is a cup free event. Please make sure to bring your own water bottle or hydration backpack. We will have water jugs at the aid stations to refill at any time.

SPECTATORS

We suggest the best spot for spectators to cheer on their runners is the start/finish area. If you wish to support your runners from the street (i.e. Upper Canyon Drive or Union Road) you are at your own risk and we advise to please be cautious with traffic.

CAUSE

All the proceeds and donations from this event go towards the Blenk Family Fund for Youth Mental Health. This fund support the Foundry Kelowna and as well as research and education in youth suicide prevention.

PHOTOGRAPHY

The team from Kodiak BC will be on site to capture fun memories. All pictures will be available for download on this website after the event. The event recap video will be shared via Wilden’s social media.

ENTERTAINMENT

Wilden residents Kim Morgan and Chris Keeley will get you singing along with their catchy cover songs before we start announcing awards. We will also have warm beverages on site to purchase. Please make sure to bring cash as we can’t accept cards at this point. Peter Ze German will also be on site offering up some food and snacks.

RUN DETAILS

THE COURSES

5K LOOP • Half the Distance. All the Fun.

This course provides the elevation challenges of the 10 km, and is suited for runners, walkers and dog lovers with their furry running buddies. The course will start off in the same direction as the 10K loop, but at the top of the first long hill it will take a turn to the East and continue to climb up to the top where you will get a bird’s eye view of Hidden Lake and Upper Canyon neighbourhoods. After the apex, the course winds back downhill and takes you to the finish line at the future Market Square site.

10K LOOP • A Wild Challenge!

The 10 km run will do a large loop of the Northwest portion of the Wilden highlands. Starting from the future future Market Square Site, the race begins with a long steady climb up past several wetlands, and after a final steep incline, offers a respite at the Wilden Cabin where you will be greeted by an on-course water and support station – and a spectacular view of Okanagan Lake. The course will then take a few rollers before a descent past the water tower, eventually popping out at Wilden Ridge Drive. A small jaunt down the road will bring you to the switch-back trails off Upper Canyon, which will lead down to the meadows. From there, a run past Forrest Edge will bring you back home, with the finish area in the future Market Square Site.

1K KIDS LOOP

A great introduction to trail running and plenty of fun for the young ones – The kids run will be kept within the boundaries of the future Market Square in the area of the post race festivities. The race will pop up on the single track trails behind the site, and wrap back around to the finish for the full hurrah.

FIRST AID & WATER STATIONS

We will have first aid on site at the start and finish line and on call in case something happens on one of the courses. If a runner can’t complete the race due to an injury we will send first aid up to the injured person to pick him/her up.

We will have two water stations. One at the start/finish area and a 2nd one approximately halfway  through the 10K course at the Wilden Fire Watch cabin. Only water will be available so if you need any other snacks or drinks please make sure to bring them yourself.
